RICH
AND THIN BY TUESDAY
Fresh Fantasies for Your Future
When I turned
40 I heard something wonderful that changed my whole decade. It
was during a conference session in Boston that the speaker referred
to research done by Ken Dychtwald for the book AGE WAVE. "When people
in their nineties are asked their favorite decade, they gave an
unexpected reply. They answered that their best decade had been
50-65. (at 90 you get a 15-year decade!)"
So all my 40's
I looked forward to a golden decade ahead. Now that it has arrived,
this time is even better than I had hoped. It's like I woke up one
day and saw a headline: "They had a contest to determine the richest
techno-tycoon and the slenderest size-one model…and you didn't win."
And, instead of being upset, I felt enormously free!
Little by little
I released from seeking "magic-happy-pill" instant solutions to
enjoying a wiser wealth, and I saw people all around doing the same.
Like the woman who found the secret meaning of her crimson fingernails,
like the man who's wife offered him "romance in a jar," like the
woman who fell in love with singing jazz to overcome a giant grief,
like the man who crossed Tennessee by horse and buggy to "see one
state slowly."
In this golden
time we get to laugh more freely, love more fully and even find
the depth and the height hidden in dark times. I hope you will enjoy
some of the voices and choices of people inventing this vibrant
new version of the fifties. Find these creative variations in the
people around you and in the future offerings in this section.
